Aussie title within reach

THE Victorian Country Football League has announced a 41-man small company notwithstanding the Barooga Sports Club District State Team for the Australian Country Football Championships in Canberra in July.
Proven representative performers Andy Grant (Elmore) and Steve Schultz (Kalkee) have once again been named in the squad.
The pair have held the captaincy and vice-captaincy positions for the past two seasons.
The team volition again be coached by former Richmond player Ron Thomas, who has coached six older premierships across country and metropolitan Victoria and in NSW.
Thomas took the kidneys of the VCFL district team in 2007.

THE Geelong and District league celebrated its return to interleague footy with a 39-point victory over the Heathcote District confederate on Saturday.
Despite a home-ground advantage, Geelong and District was slow to start and a strong Heathcote midfield helped its team to a 13-point lead at quarter time.
Geelong and District was also down a player, with Jackson Macleod out of the game after a strike to the head.
But the Geelong and District team place its feet in the late stages of the second term to take a 21-point lead into the main break.
North Geelong'sitting Paul Breguet was a powerhouse forward, booting five goals to put his team on top.
Simon Prymke also lived up to expectations, with a goal of his admit and a strong performance at centre half-back.
Geelong and District coach Adam Skrobalak related his team had felt positive on the day, despite the early challenge from the Heathcote midfield.
"All our superlatively good players put their hands up," Skrobalak said.
"We had a veritably great team."
He aforesaid his team's ability to bring forward the ball quickly from defence to the forwards had been the key to its win.
Skrobalak said he was already looking forward to next year's clash through Western Border.
"I don't know granting that they'll want me again, but if I'm still around I'luncheon love to (coach) again," he said.

Murray’s first win in two years

THE Murray Football League chalked up its first interleague victory since 2008 with a 39-point win through the whole extent of the Bellarine league at Bendigo on Saturday.
Murray struggled for scoring opportunities in the first quarter, and trailed by seven points at the first break.
But Murray sharp up the pace in the second and third terms, outscoring Bellarine in both quarters to take an eight-point lead into three-quarter time, 8.11 (59) to 7.9 (51).
Murray's inaccuracy in front of goal was turned around in the final quarter, like it piled on five of the final six goals to assurance victory over Bellarine.
Murray general economist Wayne Burrows said it was an excellent result.
"It was a hard tussle in the first three (quarters)," Burrows said.
"But everything seemed to arrive into union in the extremity."
Burrows said Numurkah'sitting Tyson Saunders, who was named best on ground, was "brilliant in the cower".
He also named Mulwala coach Tim Hargreaves and Echuca United's Duane Hueston to the degree that standouts. Both players were strong up forward, kicking two goals each.
Burrows said the league was looking forward to an even better result nearest year.

Central nabs glory sans forward stars

THEY may have been without their star forwards, but Central Murray still managed to joy over the Wimmera confederate in their interleague clash at Horsham on Saturday.
Clint Kelly (Tyntynder), touted as the No. 1 centre-half-forward in the Central Murray, and five-time premiership mimic Jarrod Arentz (Tooleybuc-Manangatang) caused concern at the time that they withdrew from the team with injuries.
But Central Murray put the setback aside and managed a 20-point victory too Wimmera.
Coach Callan Beasy, who besides played forward in the match, said that the game got off to a hard start.
"We had our chances early, but missed easy goals," Beasy said. "We were undermanned in scoring ruler."
Wimmera was on Central Murray's tail for the first three quarters, with just nine points separating the teams at three-quarter-time.
But Central Murray broke away in the final term, with accurate kicking and quick ball-movement helping the team finish 20 points ahead of their competitors.
Onballer Josh Stone was joined by Tooleybuc-Manangatang teammate and interleague captain Rhys O'Sullivan as the best players adhering the day.

Ovens feels the heat

IT WAS always going to have existence an of high game, but Goulburn Valley’s straits proved too much for Ovens and Murray on Saturday night.
Both teams came out hard, no doubt remembering last year'sitting match, at what time Ovens and Murray slammed on eight goals in a first term that secured the match.
But this year, Goulburn Valley vague manager Keith Wellman said his team was motivated and ready to play.
"We realised we had to do something in the first moments to stop their run," Wellman before-mentioned.
Goulburn Valley's defenders came out hard, managing to sustain Ovens and Murray from anything more than a one-goal lead in the first term.
In the second quarter Goulburn Valley turned up the heat, with four goals answered by a single point.
Echuca midfielder Brad Murray tore up the middle point in a performance that earned him best on ground.
As expected, Jason Eagle (Shepparton Swans) was dominant in forward, kicking four goals, and was joined by Paul Newman (Kyabram) with three.
The Ovens and Murray team wasn't ready to give up, fighting back in the final quarter with three unanswered goals.
Despite their efforts it wasn't enough to lay hold of Goulburn Valley, who took the suit and the title of country Victoria's best league.
Wellman reported the league was already looking forward to defending its title next year to match Ballarat.
"It's a long way, but we'll be sagacious to hang attached to the mantle, and more of that thought will start now," he said.
