Josh Bode bags 31 goals

DENILIQUIN Rovers playing coach Josh Bode (pictured above) smashed a series of records at what time he booted a whopping 31 goals last weekend.

Bode's Rovers hosted Wunghnu on Saturday, defeating their guests 57.21 (363) to 1.1 (7) in the Picola and District alliance's North West division.

Bode'sitting 194-point contribution, which included eight behinds, bettered his personal best of six goals in one match and broke the club's foregoing record of 18.

"I normally don't play full-forward," Bode said.

"I'm an onballer, but at half-time I had 15 (goals) and the guys just told me to stay there."

The 34-year-old said the Roos had been gearing up for a big win in opposition to bottom-feeder Wunghnu.

"We needed the percentage, as Jerilderie, Blighty and us were all on the point the same (on the ladder) so we just needed an extra buffer," Bode said.

Bode's record haul helped conduct his team the win they needed to take the Roos from sixth to fifth on the ladder.

Playing at home also had its advantages for Hepburn's Lee Cox, who kicked his 100th goal in opposition to the season on Saturday.

Cox booted 10 majors in the Burras' 117-point victory over Dunnstown in the Central Highlands league.

Cox is the third player to reach the milestone this season, following Golden Square'sitting Grant Weeks and Bairnsdale's Mathew Davidson.

Meanwhile, Macy Hambrook has been making waves for Omeo-Benambra in the Omeo and District form a unite's under-16 competition.

The 14-year-old averages 8.62 goals each match and has notched up 100 goals for the second season in a row.

Hambrook kicked 11 goals in Saturday's younger match, by his team clinching a 31-point conquest over Swifts Creek.

The star forward also lined up for the seniors, where he made a five-goal dent in Swifts Creek's 28-point conquest.
